‘track one’ was one of the brisbane band’s first single.

if i knew how to use some sort of related thing linking to former articles on here, which i’ll figure out one day when i’ve got me some time, i’d link this to the avalanches ‘run dna’. there seemed to be a host of bands in australia doing tongue in cheek rock rap in the ’90s.

i started going to gigs when limp bizkit were serious as cancer…

all their other videos feature quan’s awesome animation and quirky singing about rectums, but this one is a sweet sad song with a mosh riff.

that matt sharp formerly of the weezer certainly knows how to fix up look sharp.

it’s no secret that the weezer empire fell to crap when matt sharp left, but thankfully he left us this gem, so we could be sure that it was indeed matt sharp who made weezer so poptastic in the ’90s.

melbourne band little red are a pure joy to listen to and watch live. feel good ditties and i’ve interviewed them a few times and they genuinely seem like nice dudes.

their new song from their new album is called ‘rock it’ and i think it rules.

here’s an excerpt from an interview i did with drummer taka honda a few weeks back. the full interview will appear in some magazine this week.

Did you meet the other Little Red guys at uni?
I didn’t meet them at uni, Quang went to the same uni as me – Monash University, but I met Quang [Dinh – bass] at a house party and after six months, he just called me and asked me if I wanted to play in a band and I said yes. So it was really weird; on the day they had a gig and then their drummer couldn’t do it, so Quang just called me and asked me to go, and I said, ‘yeah, why not?’ Then the first time I met them was at rehearsal and we went through all the songs twice, and then we had a gig and then I stayed in the band.
Were you playing drums for a while by then?
Not really. I played a bit in Japan, but I wouldn’t have called myself a drummer back then. When I first met Quang, I must have talked myself up and that’s why he must have called me. I must have made myself sound like a great drummer, but I wasn’t. I didn’t know much about drumming, so I just winged it!
Is it true that you were threatened with deportation after your student visa expired?
That’s true. It’s all got sorted. I just went home and made a fake visa with Photoshop and it worked. Bam! You can print that because I don’t think Tony Abbott’s going to read this article!
What do your parents think about your change of career?
I think they were a bit disappointed. Having Asian parents – all they want is that stability, you know. They want their kids to have stability, but I feel right doing what I’m doing.

i never claimed to program(me)rage like one of their musical guests, but i’ve at least programmed rage twice…

the first time was in 2003… maybe 2004. the rage website started up and they had a forum, and as far as my recollection can remember is told them:

“you guys should do a spike jonze special”

because they had never done a special based solely on directors.

and then about two or three weeks later they had a spike jonze special.

i was flabbergasted and in shock.

fast forward seven or six years.

to less than two weeks ago.
